Artemis

Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and childbirth. On one level, this painting celebrates the deep connection between femininity and motherhood. Additionally, elements such as cradling the rainbow lorikeet (another species common in the Blue Mountains) as well as the baby, emphasise women’s responsibility to nurture and protect the natural environment. My adoration for nature (and my children!) is also conveyed with Artemis’s expression and the garland of roses
in her hair, which are symbolic of love.
